Church of the Holy Family


The Church of the Holy Family (in Catalan Expiatori Temple of the Sagrada Familia), known simply as the Holy Family is a Catholic basilica in Barcelona (Spain), designed by the architect Antoni Gaudi. Initiated in 1882, still under construction (May 2013). It is the masterpiece of Gaudi, and the greatest exponent of Catalan modernist architecture. According to data from 2011, is the most visited monument in Spain, with 3.2 million visitors, followed by the Prado Museum (2.9 million) and the Alhambra in Granada (2.3 million).

Construction began in the Gothic style, but, assuming the project Gaudí in 1883, was completely redesigned. According to his usual procedure, general sketches from improvised building construction as it progressed. Gaudí took over the project with only 31, and he devoted the rest of his life, the last fifteen exclusively.
